Drums of Autumn

Drums of Autumn tells the story of the settling down of Claire and Jamie Fraser in the North Carolina wilderness, and the advent of Brianna Ellen Randall Fraser into the past. That considerably you can read from the back cover. This is my least favourite book for two reasons. Jamie suffers considerably in it, and the concentrate shifts away from Claire and Jamie. You can tell that this book is written by a woman because Jamie is a woman’s notion of the perfect man. Eternally faithful, powerful, constantly knows what to do, loving and demonstrative without looking like a sissy. Its a delicate balancing act which is nearly impossible to discover in a real live man. Even his flaws are manly really stubborn, proud, jealous yet not insecure, did I mention stubborn? Anyway, in this book, thanks to Brianna, we are confronted by a lot of of his flaws, and their outcomes. Brianna does not come off nicely either, in this book. She is bratty, does not acknowledge any culpability in the misunderstandings perpetuated by her selective info sharing and does not seem to want to see anyone else’s point of view.

I have read this book so a lot of times I have lost count. I start off from book a single and continue till I reach the latest installment, and then I begin once again. It takes about five years among installments and I began to read these books in 2009 so do the math. Every single time I read although, I come across a thing new that I had not observed or realised prior to. This time, it really hit me what Diana Gabaldon meant when she wrote in Brianna’s voice that Jamie will strip himself to the bone if he felt it required. Such ruthlessness and commitment boggles my mind. I can not picture it. It is beyond my experience of males.I also understood why he gave Claire back her first wedding ring. I think the letter that Roger recited to him made him recognize finally, that he had come out on leading of the ‘who does Claire enjoy best’ games. This created him forgive Frank Randall for being the man who had her initial, and then for getting the man who got to raise his daughter.It was also an acknowledgement of their kinship if he wanted to kill Frank Randall for being husband and father to his family he also realised that Frank felt exactly the same about him. In the afterlife should they meet, I believe it would be a pity if they fought.

At the end of the day, this book was about fathers and the lengths they would go to, to preserve their kids secure.
